Apr 10, 2023Easter can be such a busy event with church and family expectations. It doesn't take much for us to lose sight of the fact that we are celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
That is why I put together this article.
7 Reasons to be Thankful for the Resurrection
As a follower of Jesus, the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our faith. It is the event that sets Christianity apart from all other religions and gives us hope for eternal life. Here are seven reasons why Christians should celebrate the resurrection:
-
The resurrection of Jesus affirms Jesus’ claims of divinity. Jesus claimed to be the Son of God, and the resurrection proves that his claims were true. Romans 1:4 states that Jesus was “declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead.” If Jesus had not risen from the dead, his claims of divinity would have been false, and Christianity would be a lie.
-
The resurrection of Jesus proves the effectiveness of Jesus’ sacrifice. The resurrection demonstrates that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross was sufficient to pay for the sins of the world. If Jesus had not risen from the dead, his sacrifice would have been incomplete, and we would still be in our sins. But because he rose from the dead, we can be confident that our sins are forgiven and that we have eternal life.
-
The resurrection of Jesus gives us hope for eternal life. Because Jesus rose from the dead, we can be sure that we too will be raised from the dead to eternal life. In 1 Corinthians 15:20-22, Paul writes, “But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.” The resurrection gives us hope that death is not the end, but a transition to eternal life with God.
-
The resurrection of Jesus defeats the power of death. The resurrection shows that death is not the final word. Jesus defeated death and the power of Satan through his resurrection. Hebrews 2:14-15 says, “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.”
-
The resurrection of Jesus validates the truth of Scripture. The resurrection is the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy and confirms the truth of Scripture. In Luke 24:44-45, Jesus says, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.” The resurrection confirms that the Bible is the inspired and authoritative Word of God.
-
The resurrection of Jesus gives us power to live for Christ. The resurrection gives us power to live for Christ and to share the gospel with others. In Ephesians 1:19-20, Paul writes, “and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places.” The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to us through the Holy Spirit, enabling us to live for Christ and to proclaim his message with boldness.
-
The resurrection of Jesus inspires worship and gratitude. Finally, the resurrection inspires worship and gratitude in the hearts of believers. In Revelation 5:12-13, John writes, “saying with a loud voice, ‘Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!’ And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, ‘To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!’” The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the ultimate reason for our worship and gratitude, as it is the foundation of our salvation and hope.
In conclusion, the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a pivotal event in the Christian faith that gives us hope, validates Scripture, defeats the power of death, and empowers us to live for Christ. It is a cause for worship and gratitude, as we celebrate the victory of our Savior over sin and death. As Christians, let's never forget the significance of the resurrection and the hope it gives us for eternal life.
